The Opera Buffs Inc., is thrilled to present a vocal competition specifically geared for young, classical vocalists, ages 16-22, who are residents of Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and Orange County

Artists of the Future Spring '23 Competition Finalists

Eligibility

Classical vocalists ages 16-22 who live in Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside and Orange Counties.

Repertoire Requirements:
Two pieces are required. The first piece must be either an Art Song or Opera Aria and the second piece can be either an Art Song, Aria, Zarzuela, Spiritual or Oratorio solo selection. While there are no specific language requirements, you must submit at least two different languages.

*Please note, the video you submit for the online application does not need to be the repertoire you decide to use for the competition. The video recording does not need to be professionally done, a recording from your phone will suffice.

Applications and pre-screening recordings must be submitted by midnight.

Audition Preliminaries

Our Auditions Coordinator, Mona Lands, will be in direct contact with you regarding scheduling for our in-person auditions. A pianist will be provided (at no cost), but you are also welcome to bring your own.

Competition Finals

Our 12 finalists will perform for our judges and audience members for a chance to win cash prizes.

Important Information

  1. Contestants may bring their own pianist OR use the Opera Buffs pianist at no cost.  Brent McMunn is the official pianist of the competition. mcmunn11@gmail.com  If you plan to bring your own accompanist, please note this in your application.

  2. Adjudication will be based on technique, tone quality, intonation, interpretation, overall musicianship, presentation and potential.

  3. THE DECISION OF THE JUDGES WILL BE FINAL.

  4. Rights to any Competition performance, whether broadcast, televised, recorded or filmed, belong to the Competition. No fee is payable on account of these performances or any recordings, broadcasts, transmissions or film.
